Ecocert COSMOS Organic
ECOCERT COSMOS IS A GLOBALLY RECOGNIZED CERTIFICATE FOR ORGANIC BEAUTY PRODUCTS THAT ZENZ ORGANIC IS IMPLEMENTING
COSMOS (COSMetic Organic Standard) is a European standard for organic cosmetics, launched in 2011 and used in more than 45 countries. Behind COSMOS are five organic labeling schemes that are combined to create a common organic label to help consumers in their quest for organic cosmetics:
- BDIH (Germany)
- ICEA (Italy)
- Cosmebio (France)
- Soil Association (United Kingdom)
- Ecocert Greenlife SAS (France)
Ecocert is an inspection and certification body set up in France in 1991 specialized in certification of organic agricultural products. Ecocert was the very first certification body to develop standards for "natural and organic cosmetics" in 2003.
Ecocert is responsible for managing the labeling scheme, which is why the label is called Ecocert COSMOS.
Ecocert COSMOS certifies both organic cosmetics (COSMOS Organic) and natural cosmetics (COSMOS Natural). To get the COSMOS Organic label, 95% of the product must be physically processed.
Agro-ingredients must be organic and at least 20% of the product must be organic, but only 10% in rinsing products.
We are just now getting Ecocert COSMOS Organic logo on our ZENZ Organic Shampoo and Oil Treaments.
We chose Ecocert COSMOS Organic because:
COSMOS certified products are produced to the highest standards of organic and natural cosmetics and are safe, effective and good to use. The certificate is widely and globally recognized and serves as an international standard that is easy to identify to the consumer.
When specific ingredients have different criteria at the Nordic Ecolabel, the Swan, and COSMOS, we prioritize the Swan label as they focus more on health and because they are a government institution, whereas COSMOS is privately owned.
